Anti-EU ETS law debate moves to US Senate

A draft law barring US airlines from participating in the EU's emissions trading scheme (ETS) has been introduced to the US Senate by Republican John Thune. It mirrors a bill adopted with overwhelming support in the House of Representatives in October.

Trade body Airlines for America which represents US airlines welcomed the new bill and wrote to senators urging them to back it. But the Senate bill does not have the same cross-party backing at the moment as the House of Representatives' version.
