Brussels consults on freshwater water policies

The European Commission is consulting stakeholders on a series of freshwater policies as part of a 'fitness check' that will help contribute to its water protection blueprint due late next year. The consultation runs until the end of February.

Stakeholders are being asked to comments on the effectiveness of the water framework directive (WFD) and five related laws on priority substances, groundwater, urban wastewater, nitrates and floods. The commission also wants them to identify gaps in the existing policy framework and barriers to the implementation of these laws.
