EU auditors have questioned the European Commission’s proposal to boost the bloc’s budget with a plastic tax in the post-2020 trillion-euro multiannual financial framework (MFF).

An unrecycled plastic packaging waste tax of €0.80/kg, proposed as one three new means of boosting the EU’s own resources, “provides an incentive for member states to increase plastics recycling”, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) says in an opinion published Thursday.
