Campaigners and recyclers have urged MEPs to back a proposal to prevent the support of waste incineration plants and other facilities to treat unsorted rubbish with public money aimed at less wealthy parts of the EU.

In proposed rules on the European Regional Development Fund and Cohesion Fund for the next budget period (2021-2027), the European Commission has called for the exclusion of facilities for the treatment of unsorted waste from the funding instruments.
