The European Commission has approved almost a quarter of a billion euros of new funding for environmental, nature and climate action through the LIFE programme, the EU’s only funding mechanism dedicated to the area.
The €243m agreed by the executive on Thursday is expected to mobilise additional investments worth €430.7m for 142 new projects covering all EU countries.
Environment commissioner Karmenu Vella said the LIFE programme “helps many talented Europeans to find solutions to some of today's greatest environmental concerns – air pollution, water scarcity, plastic waste, biodiversity and resource loss. And it continues to deliver value for money."
