EU member states are set to endorse on Friday recycling targets well below those called for by the European Parliament, signalling difficult negotiations ahead, leaked documents have shown.

The countries in the EU Council are aiming for a 60% recycling rateĀ for municipal waste and 70% for packaging waste by 2030, according to the latest draft position. These are a full 10 percentage points below the targets called for by MEPs in March and five percentage points below those proposed by the European Commission.
