MEPs backed on Tuesday the European Commission’s approach to measuring emissions from land use and forestry, while urging countries to boost CO2 absorption by the sector to exceed emissions.

The European Parliament’s environment committee agreed its position on the LULUCF Regulation on land use, land use change and forestry, which will require the sector to participate in meeting the EU’s climate target after 2020.
