The average car on Europe’s roads is 10.7 years old, and two out of every five are powered by diesel, the most polluting fuel, a report released this week by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) shows.

Diesel – the main source of NO2 emissions in urban areas and linked to increased mortality rates – also powers the bulk of Europe’s commercial traffic.
