Agreement needed by 2020 on deeper GHG cuts

Major emitters including the EU need to agree by 2020 how they will deepen current pledges to cut GHG emissions through the Paris Agreement, a German negotiator has said at UN climate talks in Bonn

Major emitters including the EU need to agree by 2020 how they will deepen current pledges to cut GHG emissions through the Paris Agreement, a German negotiator told a side event at UN climate talks in Bonn on Tuesday.

“The Talanoa Dialogue should aim at strengthening ambition by 2020,” German government negotiator Karsten Sach told a side event organised by UNEP.

Sach was referring to the strand of UN climate talks aimed at creating a framework for strengthening emissions targets so they are in line with warnings from scientists.
