National governments endorsed on Tuesday a compromise deal on post-2020 reforms to the ailing EU emissions trading system, paving the way for final adoption after a committee vote in the European Parliament next week.

The deal clinched on 9 November, more than two years after the European Commission tabled its original reform proposal, will see an increase in the rate at which the overall emissions cap is lowered each year, from 1.74% to 2.2%.
