The objectives of the EU’s current Environmental Action Programme covering the seven years to 2020 are “unlikely to be fully met by 2020, despite sporadic progress in some areas”, according to a midterm assessment by the European Parliament.

The 7th Environment Action Programme was adopted in 2013 to provide a broad framework for EU environment policy to the end of the decade, as well as outlining an aspirational ‘vision’ for mid-century.
