More than 300 cities will collectively contribute to a third of the EU’s GHG emissions reductions by 2020, according to new European Commission research

More than 300 cities will collectively contribute to a third of the EU’s GHG emissions reductions by 2020, according to new European Commission research.

The cities, part of the Covenant of Mayors of Climate and Energy, described as the “world’s biggest urban climate and energy initiative” by Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete, are committed to an overall 27% GHG reduction by 2020, almost 7 percentage points higher than the wider EU target.
