A forthcoming regulation setting out how EU climate and energy targets are to be implemented should include a provision calling for the bloc to achieve net zero CO2 emissions across the entire economy by 2050, MEPs agreed on Thursday in a European Parliament committee vote on a proposed Governance Regulation.
“Today’s vote proves that the Parliament understands the urgency of drastically increasing climate action,” said Wendel Trio, director of Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe. “The vote adds momentum for scaling up emission cuts in the EU,” he said.
