The German manufacturing industry has passed the national annual energy efficiency test for 2016, official figures show, meaning that energy-intensive companies will be able to take full advantage of an up to 90% exemption from electricity and energy taxes in 2018.
The highest possible exemptions to industry are only paid out if the energy intensity of manufacturing industry as a whole is reduced by at least the legally fixed targets.
Figures released last week by Germany’s federal finance ministry show that in 2016 the energy intensity of the German manufacturing industry fell by 13.8% compared with the baseline - the average value for 2007-2012.
