Series of EU infringement actions announced

Commission warns eight member states over habitats, bathing water, drinking water, asbestos

The European Commission today revealed a series of new legal infringement actions against EU member states over failure to comply with EU environmental laws. The cases are the second batch to be announced since decisions to proceed were rubber-stamped by commissioners at a quarterly "infringements meeting" on 22 December. Decisions on three cases were made public last week (ENDS Daily 6 January). Further announcements are due to be made in the coming days. The cases announced today are summarised in the first five articles in this issue to the right.
