The incoming members of the European Parliament’s environment committee (ENVI) will have a major role in scrutinising the new European Commission’s environmental agenda. Analysis carried out by ENDS shows that while its make-up by political affiliation matches the overall composition of the Parliament – as is standard for committees – several member states are significantly better represented than their population size would suggest.
Italian MEPs have the biggest presence on the committee – with eight in total, followed by France and the UK with seven, and Poland, Germany and the Netherlands – all with six.
