Novo Nordisk wins Danish green reports prize

Biotechnology firm praised for environmental reporting tailored for stakeholder groups

Pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk won Denmark's main corporate environmental reporting award for the third time in a row yesterday. The award scheme is organised by the Danish institute of chartered accountants (FSR). Several of the entrants will now be entered into a European reporting competition, which was also won by Novo Nordisk last year. The company was praised yesterday for designing its report for the needs of various stakeholder groups, including clients, suppliers, employees and social groups. Three other companies also won recommendations in the awards. Knud Overgaard ApS, an engineering parts production firm with only 14 employees, had the best report made by a small company. Gentofte hospital won praise for its "innovative" idea to benchmark its environmental policy and performance against that of other Danish hospitals. The award for best first time report went to hospital equipment producer Coloplast A/S. Under Danish law, about 1,000 firms are obliged to make annual environmental reports (ENDS Daily 25 August 1997).
