EU green laws' impact on job creation estimated

Study suggests ten key environmental directives generate 500,000 new jobs annually

An EU study has calculated that ten important European environmental directives have led to creation of an extra 500,000 jobs per year due to compliance measures introduced by industry. The figure represents 3% of all unemployed people around the EU, according to three consultancies.

However the study also found that the number of jobs created varies considerably between member states and that countries with the lowest creation rates tend to be those with higher unemployment, such as Spain and Italy.
