EEB outlines hopes for Belgian presidency

EU sustainable development strategy, 6EAP, top of green group's wish list

Adoption of headline indicators for the EU's recently-adopted sustainable development strategy is urgently required if the strategy is to be credible, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB) said today.

The environmental group identified improvements to the sustainable development strategy (EED 18/06/01) as the most pressing green issue facing the new Belgian six-month presidency of the EU, in its traditional "10 green tests" memorandum issued at the beginning of each presidency. It demanded adoption of headline indicators within six months as well improvements to the quality of sectoral strategies and debates on the strategy's global impact and on EU environmental tax reform.
