School children show the way on climate

Margot Wallström pledges to cycle to work for a month after losing bet with young people

EU environment commissioner Margot Wallström today pledged to cycle to work for a month after school children from around Europe reported successfully cutting their carbon dioxide emissions by 8% in eight months. Ms Wallström accepted the bet during last year's unsuccessful global climate summit in the Hague.

The commissioner praised the participants, saying the results showed what citizens could do in their everyday lives. "This is what the youth campaigners and all the participants in the bet have demonstrated... If multiplied by millions of people, many small steps can make a big difference".
