Solar PV industry predicts installation boom

2010 renewables directive target for photovoltaics capacity "should be met, possibly surpassed"

The European photovoltaic (PV) solar industry expects to achieve and possibly surpass the EU's 2010 growth target, the head of Europe's PV industry association told a group of experts meeting in Basel on Friday.

Murray Cameron of the European photovoltaic industry association (EPIA) said latest projections supported achievement of the goal of three gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity by the end of the decade. Over-achievement by about 1GW was also possible, he added. EPIA estimates that about 100,000 permanent new jobs will be created if the higher figure is achieved.
