Anti-GM campaigners win UK court victory

High court judgement places further hurdle in way of prosecution of crop trashing activists

UK campaigners opposed to genetic modification (GM) in agriculture today won yet another legal victory against attempts to prosecute them for trashing GM crops. A series of further outstanding cases against direct action activists could now be dropped, campaign group Genetix Snowball claims.

Issued by the high court in London - Britain's highest criminal court - today's judgement deals with two appeal cases, both concerning the legitimacy of aggravated assault charges brought against anti-GM activists. The ruling says that such a charge was not merited in either case because no "intimidation" was evident during the crop destruction actions.
