UK insurers launch corporate ethics template

Big investors demand proof of corporate social responsibility from all companies

The UK insurance industry yesterday published corporate social responsibility (CSR) guidelines and called on all companies, big or small, to implement them. The association of British insurers (ABI), whose members control one-quarter of the UK stock market, said that companies must take CSR more seriously if they want to avoid the government introducing compulsory requirements.

ABI's guidelines set out how companies should tackle and report on social, ethical and environmental (SEE) issues and the association says it plans to monitor their take-up.
