New profile of EU greenhouse gas emissions

Update report sheds more light on sectoral driving forces, national performance

The European environment agency (EEA) has published an in-depth review of EU greenhouse gas emission trends from 1990 to 1999, timed to coincide with the start of the COP7 global climate conference in Marrakech on Monday. New elements include detailed breakdowns by sector and country.

The report follows a first profile of EU greenhouse gas emissions to 1999 issued by the EEA this spring, in which it recording a 4% fall from 1990 to 1999, fully half of which was achieved in the single year 1998 to 1999 (EED 20/04/01).
