Ministers approve five new green measures, adopt conclusions on biodiversity, clean air, climate change

EU environment ministers held their first formal meeting under the Belgian presidency yesterday. Dominating the proceedings was a public debate on genetically modified crops and foods which put paid to European Commission plans for an early restart of EU approvals for new GM products (EED 29/10/01).

The rest of the agenda was largely frictionless and saw first reading common positions adopted on five new legislative proposals (EED 26/10/01).
