Talks run into the night as hard core umbrella group countries hold out for easier terms

The fate of global talks in Marrakech to finalise implementation rules for the Kyoto climate protocol was hanging in the balance as ENDS Europe DAILY was published this evening.

Nearing the end of the final day of the COP7 conference, four countries were holding out for changes to a compromise deal tabled on Thursday evening by the talks chairman, Moroccan environment minister Mohamed Elyazghi. It has been accepted by all other major parties present, including the EU.
