Government launches review to resolve "profound disagreements" over recycling, incineration

Just 18 months after it issued a waste strategy including legally-binding recycling targets for English and Welsh local authorities, the UK government has launched a new phase of study and consultation on future policy.

Environment minister Margaret Beckett made the announcement yesterday at a stakeholder "waste summit" in London. As a first step, a special unit in the prime minister's office is to review the waste strategy and report back by next summer.
