The European Commission has been strongly criticised for downplaying arguments over future EU transport policies during a stakeholder debate organised in Brussels yesterday. Participants dismissed the event as a "PR exercise" and accused a senior official of incorrectly suggesting there is strong consensus over contentious issues.
The debate was organised by the Commission's transport directorate. Its aim was to bring together representatives of industry, governments and civil society groups for a first large-scale discussion on the EU transport white paper published in September (EED 12/09/01).
