EU states challenged over green law breaches

Portugal, Ireland, Italy, taken to task for failing to implement water, waste, directives

The European Commission today revealed three new infringement actions against EU member states for failures to comply with European water and waste laws. All the cases were decided over a month ago but not made public until now.

Portugal is to be sent a first official warning (formal notice) for not adopting proper pollution reduction programmes for 99 dangerous substances under the 1976 dangerous substances in water directive despite being condemned in the European court of justice for the same failure last year (EED 14/07/00).
