European power firms call for more communication to "dispel myths," win public acceptance

Europe's power industry has called for a sustained effort to win public backing for nuclear waste disposal, arguing that the current lack of acceptance threatens the sustainability of nuclear power itself. Electricity firms need to increase communication efforts to overcome this scepticism, according to trade association Eurelectric.

The organisation issued its statement to publicise a new report providing an overview of the status and treatment of radioactive wastes in Europe, including transport issues, national and international regulatory frameworks and control systems.
