France tracks industrial ODS compliance

Inspections expose "important percentage" of sites failing to conform with legislation

An "important percentage" of French industrial sites subject to EU legislation on ozone-depleting substances (ODS) are failing to monitor and maintain cooling and refrigeration units as required, concludes a report published last week by the country's environment ministry.

The report synthesises data collected last year from inspections of supermarkets, refrigerated depots and other agri-food establishments. In total, 69 sites with 242 refrigeration or cooling units were checked to see whether equipment containing CFCs, HCFCs or the group of non-ozone depleting greenhouse gases HFCs was being monitored and maintained to reduce the risk of leaks.
