Policy-makers "ignoring environment"

EU-wide poll of citizens shows continuing high concern over range of green issues

Three-quarters of Europeans think that policy-makers do not think enough about the environment when deciding policy in areas such as employment and the economy, according to an EU-wide poll on environmental attitudes. The Eurobarometer survey was requested by the European Commission's environment directorate to mark world environment day, 5 June.

The poll of 7,500 citizens across the EU reveals that more Europeans cite the state of the environment as influencing their quality of life (73%) than the economy (64%) or social factors (64%). Regarding different environmental issues, it shows 89% worried about environmental pollution, 86% about the use of natural resources, and 72.5% about climate change.
