Government relaxes waste interpretation in bid to ease regulatory burdens on business

The Italian government has issued a decree providing an "authentic interpretation of the definition of waste" that effectively reclassifies scrap materials such as metal and wood as raw materials to be re-used in industrial processes without further treatment. The move effectively reverses a recent decision by an Italian magistrate that any material discarded as waste should be treated as such until it is adequately treated (EED 25/06/02).
