German anti-deposits lawsuit withdrawn

Environment ministry claims further proof that drinks packaging deposits are legally secure

Opponents of the German government's planned deposits on certain one-way drinks containers have suffered another setback following withdrawal of a lawsuit filed by drinks packagers and retailers in the state of Brandenburg. The German environment ministry claimed today that the plaintiffs had backed off amid signs that Brandenburg's administrative court in Potsdam would reject their plea.

State administrative courts in Berlin and Wiesbaden have already dismissed similar lawsuits. The ministry said that events in Potsdam further confirmed the legal correctness of the government's plan.
