Norway's environment minister Børge Brende has come under attack from scientists whom he prevented in August from injecting several tonnes of liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) into the Norwegian Sea in a carbon sequestration experiment (EED 26/08/02).
In a letter to the journal Environmental Science and Technology, 14 researchers describe the decision as "very unfortunate" and accuse the minister of "overturning the open process of a permitting agency under political pressure from special interest groups".
