Scientists attack block on CO2 sequestration

World "may regret" Norwegian minister's veto on oceanic carbon injection experiment

Norway's environment minister Børge Brende has come under attack from scientists whom he prevented in August from injecting several tonnes of liquid carbon dioxide (CO2) into the Norwegian Sea in a carbon sequestration experiment (EED 26/08/02).

In a letter to the journal Environmental Science and Technology, 14 researchers describe the decision as "very unfortunate" and accuse the minister of "overturning the open process of a permitting agency under political pressure from special interest groups".
