Resource management issues feature strongly in a list of policy themes on the European Commission's agenda next year, according to its recently published 2003 work programme. Next March will see a communication presaging the thematic strategy on the sustainable use and management of resources, a white paper on integrated product policy and a policy paper on environmental aspects of product standardisation.
Experience has shown the Commission's projected dates invariably get pushed back. Major proposals on a new chemicals policy and mining waste are due in the final quarter of this year, though both may well get nudged into next year. A proposal on battery waste has already been put back to March.
