Water importers retable deposits action

Firms appeal against German court ruling, warn of substantial damages claims in future

The association of mineral water importers into Germany (VMI) is appealing against a court decision that its case against planned deposits on one-way drinks containers was inadmissible, underlining its determination to fight the scheme now just eight weeks away from scheduled introduction.

The verdict being challenged was delivered by an administrative court in the state of Hesse in September (EED 25/09/02). Insisting that it was right to bring its claim that the deposits will breach EU internal market rules before a regional court, VMI is retabling it before another Hesse administrative court, this time in Kassel.
