European parliament round-up

MEPs want more money for "intelligent energy" programme; discuss fishing, antibiotics in feeds

This week's plenary in Strasbourg saw votes on a number of environment-related issues.

Intelligent energy for Europe

The parliament adopted a report on the four-year intelligent energy for Europe programme to fund renewables and energy-efficiency schemes. It calls for the programme's budget to be increased to €255m from the €215m proposed by the European Commission. A public debate on the programme was held in September (EED 12/09/02). MEPs also voted in a clause specifying further funds from 2004 to take into account the number and size of the new member states.
