Deal on EU diesel machine emission curbs

Parliament wins stricter limits in agreement on revised non-road mobile machinery directive

EU governments and the European parliament have reached outline agreement on new emissions standards for diesel engines in heavy machinery, trains and inland waterway vessels under a directive on non-road mobile machinery. The compromise requires formal ratification by both sides.

The deal follows talks between the council of ministers and parliamentary rapporteur Bernd Lange. Both sides had already agreed that a first round of tighter standards should be implemented around 2006.
