Leading groups issue wide-ranging manifesto for 2004 European parliament elections

Europe's leading green NGOs on Friday issued a 61-point environmental manifesto for next year's European parliament elections. The so-called Green-8 coalition urged all political parties to give environmental issues a high priority in the run-up to the vote.

Green issues have recently been eclipsed by other concerns on the EU political agenda, the coalition acknowledges, while insisting that European citizens continue to attach great importance to them.
