The European Commission has claimed broad support for outline proposals on integrating environmental aspects into technical standardisation following a consultation exercise. A communication due later this year should closely mirror outline proposals issued in July (EED 16/07/03).
A key outcome is confirmation that EU intervention should not be too heavy handed. The Commission should flag priority areas for integration, but standardisation stakeholders should decide whether and how to address them, the EU executive concludes.
