French food firms in sustainability initiative

France's food industry association Ania on Wednesday launched a sustainable development charter. Twelve subsidiary action programmes include goals to achieve eco-design of packaging, transform by-products back into raw materials and promote sustainable food distribution. Ania said its charter was in line with the emphasis on voluntary action by business set in a French government sustainability strategy published in June (EED 03/06/03). See press release.
