Anglo-Welsh agency issues chemicals strategy

The environment agency of England and Wales on Wednesday issued a comprehensive strategy for prioritising and managing risks to human health from chemicals. It promised systematic screening, a prioritised action plan on high-risk substances and new approaches to promote "green chemistry". Britain's chemical industries association reacted cautiously, welcoming the holistic, risk-based approach and the establishment of an independent research programme but criticising the focus on promoting action by manufacturers.
