Strong criticism of EU waste policy-making

UK parliamentary committee calls for greater transparency, broader review of existing waste rules

A committee of British parliamentarians has strongly criticised EU policy-making on waste. In a report issued on Wednesday it called for improvements, including more efforts to ensure transparency when new laws are developed and more clarity in completed legislation.

The report is based on a review of three recent Commission communications on waste prevention and recycling, integrated product policy and sustainable use of natural resources which together are intended to introduce a new, more holistic framework for EU waste policies.
