Very few EU states will meet the deadline for transposing the EU's blockbuster water framework directive of 2000 into national law, it has emerged. The deadline falls on 22 December. So far only one government has completed the process, ENDS Europe DAILY has learned.
The European Commission is keeping details close to its chest before the deadline expires but an official said that most countries are expected to miss it by several months. One - unnamed - country is likely to miss it by a much bigger margin.
