EU energy ministers meeting in Brussels on Monday held their first debate on potentially far reaching proposals to impose European eco-design rules on all energy-using products.
The council has endorsed the broad outlines of the plan, in which a framework directive will define general principles, to be followed by implementing measures setting targets such as minimum energy efficiency goals for particular product groups, which could range from domestic appliances to industrial electric motors to office equipment to consumer electronics.
