Industry withdraws phthalates rebuttal report

Denmark's PVC industry left red-faced after posting internal critique of Greenpeace on the web

Europe's PVC industry has hurriedly pulled from the web a report rebutting Greenpeace criticisms about phthalate plasticisers in Disney childrenswear after realising that it had not been meant for publication. The sector is considering a request from the environmental group to see the document (EED 23/09/04).

Entitled "Have no fear of Disneywear", the eight-page rebuttal paper was produced by the American chemistry council phthalate esters panel and put on an industry intranet. It was posted on the web by Denmark's PVC information council. "I made a mistake", said an embarrassed Ole Gr√łndahl Hansen. "I thought it was publicly available."
