European pollution atlas angers Norwegian firms

Association fights back after local firms identified in Eper review as "most polluting in their sectors"

Norwegian industry association Pil attacked the European Commission on Tuesday after it identified firms in Norway as "the most polluting in Europe in their sectors" in a first review of the European industrial pollution inventory, Eper (EED 08/10/04).

According to Pil, two of the three firms identified in the review have closed and one is "perhaps the most diligent and conscientious of the European vinyl chloride companies". The association has filed a complaint via Norway's EU delegation and has asked national pollution control authority SFT to look at issues raised by the incident.
