Rival forest certification schemes clash again

World Bank and WWF pledge to continue with assessment despite PEFC scheme's boycott

Environmental NGOs have expressed deep regret at the withdrawal of the Programme for the endorsement of forest certification schemes (PEFC) from a major pan-European assessment of certification systems for sustainable forestry being prepared by the World Bank and green group WWF. The organisations said they would nevertheless continue with the exercise.

The assessment scheme has been designed to examine various aspects of certification schemes, to help decide how the two organisations' support for logging operations covered by different forest certification schemes should be continued.
