Three of the EU's ten new member states should get extra time to meet common packaging waste recycling and recovery targets, the European parliament's environment committee said on Monday. Earlier this year the European Commission proposed requiring compliance by all ten by December 2012 - four years later than for the EU-15 - (EED 25/02/04). But MEPs have decided to accept pleas for extensions made by Malta, Poland and Latvia for extended deadlines of December 2013, 2014 and 2015 respectively.
